Claims News Service, Apr. 26, 1:59 p.m. EDT — According to theInsurance Council of Texas, a hail storm that struck Central Texason April 21 is expected to exceed $100 million in insured losses.Reports stated that baseball-sized hail pounded the city of SanMarcos that resulted in damage to vehicles at car dealerships andshopping malls.

An estimated 10,000 auto claims are expected as well as 7,000homeowners' and commercial property claims. A manager at a Hondadealership in San Marcos said many of his 110 new vehicles on hislot would be declared total losses.

Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the council, said a hail storm lastyear caused $100 million in insured losses in the Austin area. Thestate's worst hail storm struck the Dallas/Fort Worth area on May5, 1995, causing more than $1 billion in damages.
