Claims News Service, Apr. 26, 1:59 p.m. EDT — According to theInsurance Council of Texas, a hail storm that struck Central Texason April 21 is expected to exceed $100 million in insured losses.Reports stated that baseball-sized hail pounded the city of SanMarcos that resulted in damage to vehicles at car dealerships andshopping malls.
|An estimated 10,000 auto claims are expected as well as 7,000homeowners' and commercial property claims. A manager at a Hondadealership in San Marcos said many of his 110 new vehicles on hislot would be declared total losses.
|Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the council, said a hail storm lastyear caused $100 million in insured losses in the Austin area. Thestate's worst hail storm struck the Dallas/Fort Worth area on May5, 1995, causing more than $1 billion in damages.
