Barney Bishop III took over last month as chief executiveofficer at the influential business lobbying association AssociatedIndustries of Florida (AIF), assuming a post long-held by JonShebel. Bishop has been in charge of daily operations as presidentsince January 2005, a position he will retain. Shebel stepped downafter spending nearly 40 years bringing AIF to its status as one ofFlorida's most powerful business lobbying groups.

Shebel's accomplishments were recognized by AIF Board ChairmanAllen Kessler, who said: “Over the past 37 years, Jon has providedunparalleled leadership to AIF and the business community inFlorida… He has advanced not only the mission of AIF and itsmembers, but also has impacted the way policymakers approachcritical issues that are important to businesses in our state.”

Shebel will concentrate on the association's insuranceoperations as a third-party administrator specializing in workers'compensation.
