Although our focus is what risk managers need to do for propertyloss recovery, adjusters and claim operations need to prepare aswell, especially in cases of Katrina-scale calamities. Preparednessincludes having compelling and credible answers to the followingquestions:

  • Do you have the staff to address an influx of property lossclaims? Can you hire temps, cat adjusters, or others on shortnotice?
  • Do you have a cat team in place?
  • Do you have mobile claim units available to reach strickenareas?
  • Do you have systems set up to trigger early warnings and toactivate crisis response plans when large storms loom?
  • Do you have adequate supplies, temporary housing, andcommunication infrastructures to let adjusters do their jobs ofhandling property losses under crisis conditions?

Use these questions as a starting point to get ready to respondquickly and effectively to property loss recovery claims.
