Harwick Named CICA President

NU Online News Service, Feb. 2, 10:34 a.m.EST?The Captive Insurance Companies Association announcedit has named Dennis P. Harwick its first full-time president.

Mr. Harwick, currently of Topeka, Kansas, is an experiencedassociation administrator, having served as executive director ofthe Washington State, Idaho, and Kansas bar associations, CICAsaid. He also served as president of several national associationsand in numerous leadership positions.

"CICA is pleased to have someone of Dennis Harwick's skill andexperience," Daniel S. Labrie, CICA board chairman said. "He willexecute CICA's long-term strategy, while meeting the challenges ofthe organization. We look forward to taking the Captive InsuranceCompanies Association to a whole new level of member support andadvocacy under Dennis's leadership."

Mr. Harwick replaces Carl Modecki, who withdrew from thepresidency because of illness, the association told NationalUnderwriter. The organization began advertising for a full-timereplacement while he still held the post. Asked about it at thetime CICA said Mr. Modecki was a "contender" for the full-timejob.

CICA represents hundreds of captive insurance companies, riskretention groups, and related organizations from more than 30jurisdictions throughout the world, including a large number inVermont, Hawaii, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the BritishVirgin Islands.

CICA was founded in 1972 by professional risk managers andoperates through its Board of Directors, with the support ofadministration contracted from an association management company.As CICA's first full-time officer, Harwick will provide a stronger,more visible presence for the captive insurance industry, the groupsaid.

Mr. Harwick will be formally introduced to CICA's membership atits 33^rd Annual International Conference, March 6-8, atthe La Costa Resort and Spa, Carlsbad, Calif.
