AIA Adds Five Insurers As Members

Elected to membership by the AIA board on Nov. 12 were EmployersInsurance Group, Federated Insurance, Mitsui Sumitomo InsuranceGroup USA, SeaBright Insurance and W. R. Berkley Corporation

AIA President Robert E. Vagley said the association looksforward to working with the new members "to help drive ourcollective public policy agenda forward."

Employers Insurance Group, based in Reno, Nev., providesworkers' compensation insurance, claims management, loss preventionconsulting, underwriting and care management services, and hasdirect written premiums totaling $114 million.

Federated Insurance in Owatonna, Minn., is a property-casualtymutual insurance company writing personal and commercial lines with2003 direct written premiums projected at $1.4 billion.

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group USA, based in Warren,N.J.,
is part of Japan's Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Ltd, andspecializes in providing commercial property and casualtyinsurance, loss control, claims administration, and rehabilitationservices with personal lines insurance services. Gross writtenpremium in 2002 totaled $295.6 million

SeaBright Insurance Company, based in Seattle, Wash., is a newcompany that began operating this October as a specialty workers'compensation insurer providing comprehensive loss control and claimmanagement solutions.

W. R. Berkley Corporation, based in Greenwich, Conn., providesspecialty insurance, alternative markets, reinsurance, regionalproperty-casualty insurance and international coverage. Thecorporation's 2002 direct written premiums were $2.4 billion.

AIA said, in addition to the five mentioned, other leadinginsurers that have become AIA members this year include ArchCapital and USAA.
