InVEST Names Teacher Of The Year
|NU Online News Service, Aug. 13, 3:50 p.m.EDT?Todd Tyni from James Monroe High School in NorthHills, Calif., was named 2003 InVEST Teacher of the Year, InVESTannounced today.
|InVEST, affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents &Brokers of America based in Alexandria, Va., is an educationalprogram dedicated solely to developing a pool of qualifiedinsurance recruits in high schools and community collegesthroughout the country.
|"Todd has taught the InVEST program at James Monroe High Schoolfor the past eight years and has been an exceptional leader to thestudents," said Barbara Miller-Richards, InVEST executive directorin a statement.
|Mr. Tyni, who has served as a member on the InVEST NationalTeacher Task Force for the past two years, is an editor andcontributor to the InVEST teacher's manual and textbook.
|He has taken students on field trips to different companies andagencies, hosted various speakers in his class, and placed manystudents in career positions, according to InVEST.
|He also has participated in numerous Insurance Brokers &Agents of San Fernando Valley events where students interact withadults in real-world business settings. He currently is mentoringother local high school teachers who are forming their own InVESTprograms.
|In 1996, Mr. Tyni earned the Teacher of the Year Award from theGreater Los Angeles area's Fulfillment Fund. He has developed acurriculum for introducing students to general office careers byproviding them with real-world experience at Washington Mutual'scorporate headquarters in Chatsworth, Calif., InVEST said.
|"We are proud to recognize Todd as our 2003 Teacher of theYear," said Ms. Miller-Richards. "Todd has committed so much of hisenergy and talent to InVEST. For years he has been an enthusiasticand dedicated proponent of the principles of the program."
