B&B Drops Arthur Anderson

NU Online News Service, June 20, 3:33 p.m.EST?Daytona Beach, Fla.? based insurance broker Brown& Brown announced today that it will no longer employ theconvicted accounting firm of Arthur Anderson, LLP.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, thebroker said that on June 14 the company board's audit decided "tono longer engage" Arthur Anderson as its public accountant. Thefirm has instead chosen Deloitte & Touche, LLP, to serve as itsaccountant.

For the two years Anderson performed work for Brown & Brownthere were no problems or disagreements, the filing said.

Arthur Andersen was the broker's accountant for both the firmand the Employee's Savings Plan and Trust. Deloitte will assumethose responsibilities for this year.

Arthur Anderson was convicted earlier this week in federal courtof conspiracy to destroy documents related to the investigation ofthe collapse of Enron. The accounting firm has since said it willno longer perform audits of public companies.
