IIAA NationalBoard Selects Heads

The Independent Insurance Agents of America's National Board ofState Directors announced the selection of W. Cloyce Anders as theassociation's president-elect and elected Louise "Bebe" C. Canter,as vice-president.

The honors came during the IIAA's Executive Committee mid-yearmeeting in early May.

Ms. Canter is the first woman elected to the Alexandria,Va.-based association's top leadership panel, the association saidin a press release.

Mr. Anders' nomination to the post of president-elect awaitsconfirmation by the membership. He is president of both VFIS ofNorth Carolina, and Anders, Ireland & Marshall, Inc., both ofRaleigh, N.C. He is a managing partner of Independent AgencyServices, LLC, Durham, N.C.

Mr. Anders was president of Independent Insurance Agents ofNorth Carolina from 1989 to 1990. He represented the state onIIAA's National Board of State Directors from 1992 to 1997. Mr.Anders was elected to the Executive Committee in September1997.

Ms. Canter is senior vice president of Patterson/SmithAssociates, Falls Church, Va. She has served the MetropolitanWashington Association of Independent Insurance Agents as statenational director and president. She served as chairman of theSouthern Agents Conference and a member of the IIAA Large AgentsCommittee. She was elected to the Executive Committee in September1998.

Benfield Completes Blanch Deal

On Tuesday, May 29, London-based broker Benfield Greig announcedcompletion of the purchase of Dallas-based E.W. Blanch.

Benfield reportedly paid $165.4 million for the troubledinsurance brokerage firm, at $13.50 a share, for 94 percentcontrolling interest.

Benfield announced it would be acquiring Blanch on April 16.
