Between geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty, the world can be a scary place.
But that won’t stop people from traveling at record numbers in 2026, according to Road Genius.
The travel-services aggregator forecasts that 1.58 billion people will make international trips in 2026, up from 1.55 billion in 2025, and as much as a 7% percent increase over pre-pandemic levels. Popular international events such as the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the Winter Olympics 2026 will help buoy global travel — and the purchase of travel insurance.
“We’re seeing roughly 50% of Americans investing in travel insurance as searches for coverage have steadily increased since the COVID-19 pandemic,” Erin Evans, managing editor of Travel at U.S. News, said in a recent press release about his publication's 2026 ranking of top travel insurance companies. “Travelers are more risk-aware than ever.”
