Gone are the days when the most drivers asked of their vehicles was that they ran well and looked decent.
In 2025, getting high marks for customer satisfaction in the automobile industry means a vehicle is high-tech, dependable, safe, comfortable, connected, gets great gas mileage, retains a favorable resale value and, yes, of course, boasts a sleek, stylish design.
Driver satisfaction with the automobile industry overall is slightly down in 2025, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI®). This is largely due to the fact that today’s cars and trucks cost more than ever, and most drivers incur high debt to get into a brand new vehicle.
“There are risks for the [automobile] industry as consumers take on larger payments for longer periods of time,” the ACSI reported in its Automobile Study 2025. “Average monthly payments approach $800.”
Larger, longer-term loans put more emphasis on vehicle reliability and dependability as consumers may be paying off their loan long after warranties expire, the study concluded.
