Regional AI hubs are emerging and driving unprecedented demand for AI professionals across different states, according to a recent study by Simulus AI.

As companies scramble to hire for AI skills and stay competitive in an increasingly tech-driven world, the data showed the race for talent has created clear winners and losers across the United States.

“States with strong government contracts, academic institutions or specific industry concentrations are carving out their own niches in the AI economy,” said Steve Sanford, co-founder and CEO of Simulus AI.

“Per-capita availability matters, as a state with fewer total jobs but a smaller workforce can offer better odds of landing a position,” he added. “As AI becomes fundamental to business operations across every sector, we expect to see more geographic diversity in where these roles are located.”

Meanwhile, Gen Z insurance workers want AI on the job and view the technology as a co-pilot for their careers.

Over 50% of Gen Z workers say AI is not a threat to their job, with 69% believing AI will help their workflow. At the same time, 45% of Gen Z workers point to slow technology adoption as a serious industry issue.

"AI is transforming industries across the economy, but the insurance sector has staved off technological change for decades, leaving systems and thinking far behind other industries," says Tanner Hackett, CEO of Counterpart. "As insurance scrambles to catch up, young professionals have a unique chance to establish themselves as indispensable leaders in an industry undergoing complete reinvention, where AI expertise has the potential to trump traditional tenure."
