Affordability, job opportunities and a strong sense of community are among the top things renters are looking for in 2025 when selecting a place to settle down, according to RentCafe.com.

The site recent compiled 20 metrics related to cost of living and housing, the local economy, and quality of life in order to rank the top places to rent nationwide.

The slideshow above illustrates the locations that received the highest marks for affordable living, as reported by RentCafe.com.

“Whether you’re looking for the excitement of a big city or the charm of a smaller town, there’s a place that fits your housing needs without stretching your budget,” researchers concluded.

Whenever someone moves into a new rental, it’s essential they understand the protections provided by the community or landlord versus what they get with their own renter’s insurance policy.

Progressive reports that renters insurance generally covers:

  • Damage to personal property;
  • Personal liability;
  • Loss of use; and
  • Medical payments.

Renters insurance generally does not cover:

  • Roommates and their property;
  • Damage to a building’s common areas; and
  • Damage from certain perils such as pests, flooding or earthquakes.

“If you rent a house or apartment and experience a fire or other disaster, your landlord’s insurance will only cover the costs of repairing the building,” advises the Triple-I. “To financially protect yourself you will need to buy renters or tenants insurance.”
