It’s no secret that the make and model of a vehicle factors into how much its insurance will cost.
Auto insurers consider how often a particular vehicle is associated with insurance claims, its safety features, and how much its repairs cost, according to Progressive: “Certain makes and models are also known to cause more damage than other vehicles. The more claims your make and model has and the more it costs to repair, on average, the higher your rate will be.”
As vehicle and driver data continue to accumulate, insurers have even more information to use to determine policy pricing.
For instance, some vehicles tend to be associated with speeding more than others. And of course, speeding is a top cause of auto accidents.
A recent study undertaken by Conboy Law Injury & Medical Malpractice Lawyers, using data collected from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, looked at top vehicles on the roads today along with the number of speeding violations nationwide attributed to particular vehicles over the last four years.
The slideshow above illustrates the top 10 vehicles associated with speeding during the last four years, according to Conboy Law Injury & Medical Malpractice Lawyers.
"Drivers of all vehicle types can exceed speed limits, though larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs appear more frequently in traffic violation data," a spokesperson for Conboy Law said in a press release. "The size and power of these vehicles make it harder for drivers to notice when they're going too fast, regardless of their intentions. Road safety ultimately depends on all drivers being mindful of their speed, as even vehicles with excellent safety ratings can't prevent accidents caused by traveling too quickly for conditions."
