Where can you walk in the footsteps of 7 U.S. presidents, pay homage to football greats, bow to the gods of rock ‘n’ roll, and visit the birthplace of such all-American delicacies as hot dogs and chewing gum?

It’s Ohio, “the Buckeye State,” a colorful American crossroads that’s also hot with renters in 2025.

Three of the top cities for rental activity during the year’s first quarter are in Ohio, according to RentCafe.com, the rental-search website. The site’s researchers analyzed rental listings from the largest 150 cities in the U.S. and then ranked the most popular locations. The slideshow above illustrates the 10 cities with the highest renter engagement during the first quarter of 2025, according to RentCafe.com.

RentCafe.com recently rolled out a new tool for monitoring leasing trends, the Renter Engagement Tracker, to coincide with the busy summer moving season. The data indicates that renters are seeking out bigger cities and steering away from pricier coastal destinations.
