"Pay attention, and keep your eyes on the road." This sage driving advice may seem basic but the fact remains that most accidents are caused by preventable behaviors, and a notable percentage of drivers admit to knowingly engaging in dangerous acts while behind the wheel. Consider that 42% of teens admit to texting while driving, according to TeenDriverSource, and the Colorado Department of Transportation has reported that about half of all drivers admit to talking on the phone while behind the wheel. There are six risky driving behaviors in particular that precipitate thousands of crashes a year, according to CarInsurance.com. "Driving is seemingly innocuous," CarInsurance.com Executive Editor Laura Longero wrote in a recent article about the riskiest things drivers do while behind the wheel. "Because driving comes so naturally, [drivers] often forget how dangerous it can be." The slideshow above illustrates the six general behaviors that, taken together, account for the riskiest things drivers can do, according to CarInsurance.com. Avoiding these bad habits is the surest way to evade the expense, humiliation and tragedy of causing an auto accident. See also:
