In 2021, 40% of insured-homeowner losses in the U.S. was due to wind and hail damage, according to the Triple-I. Downed trees and falling branches were responsible for millions of dollars of that damage. The good news is that minimal observation and preventive care can make a major difference when it comes to the chances that a tree will cause property damage. The slideshow above illustrates eight common problems associated with trees that are at risk of breaking, splintering or toppling during a storm, according to Nationwide. Once a property owner is aware of a potentially problematic tree, property pruning goes a long way toward making that greenery safer in the event of a major weather event.
