The struggle to retain and attract talent to the world of insurance, in general, and to particular segments, has been well documented. This is not due to a lack of effort on the industry's part, however. A number of associations and organizations offer early-career opportunities to gain real-world experience, many of whom will gladly offer full-time opportunities to candidates who prove their worth. In particular, the field of risk management is in need of an influx of talent. There are a number of rising risk professionals and students looking to support the risk management field — and they're confident they will have the skills to meet the challenges of 2025, according to the RIMS Risk Management Talent 2025 Report. As the risks of today morph into something different in endless perpetuity, an understanding of the past and present is necessary. The report sought to understand who compromises the profession today, as well as who is projected to do so by 2025. "Risk management professionals must develop an approach and plan for a continually expanding landscape of new challenges to demonstrate their value," RIMS 2019 President Gloria Brosius said in the report. "Five years from now, these shifts may be complete and those who didn't at least plan ahead will be left behind."

Methodology

RIMS, in alliance with Willis Towers Watson, The Hartford and Chubb, collected more than 1,170 surveys — including 845 from risk professionals. The survey also asked respondents to assess their functions, the importance and impact of diversity and inclusion initiatives, and the effectiveness of educational curriculum. Access to the full report can be found on RIMS's website.
