NU Property & Casualty Agency of the Year Award logo It's time to nominate your independent insurance agency for NU's Agency of the Year Award.

Property & casualty insurance industry professionals work in a variety of roles: agents, brokers, underwriters, claims examiners, producers and risk consultants, to name a few. And I'm pleased that our readers represent that cross section.

We read every day that traditional insurance distribution channels — including independent agents — are disappearing, only to be replaced by start-ups and online insurance options. Despite all the disruption in the insurance industry, independent agents are still doing business across the country. They're trusted advisers to their clients at the most important times of their clients' lives: buying a car or a house, renting property or starting a business, for example. Agents also are part of the fabric of their communities. They sponsor Little League teams, volunteer at food pantries, and send their children to the same schools that their clients do.

Two years ago, we began honoring independent agencies for their efforts to help clients and remain relevant in the P&C world, which is continually changing. Our goal is to showcase three agencies that are providing outstanding service to their clients, including stellar claims handling, employing new technologies, marketing their agencies and growing their book of business.

I want our readers to see those stories and get to know those leading agencies, noting some of those best practices and adopting them in their own daily work. I want readers to recognize the great job others are doing, learn from them, and find some new ideas that they can use in their own agencies.

The response to our call for entries for the past two years was overwhelming. The number and quality of the entries were impressive, and I'm sure we'll see similar entries for the 2019 awards. The winners all received individual profiles in our October 2017 and 2018 issues (and online), and they received some stunning glass statuettes to commemorate their wins.

From today until Aug. 23, we're giving agencies of similar excellence a chance to show their P&C peers how it's done.

We've begun accepting entries for this year's Agency of the Year Awards through a special web portal. This year's three winning agencies will be profiled in the October 2019 issue of NU Property & Casualty magazine and on our website.

If you think that your agency's story is a great one, please share it with us and our readers. We fully recognize that all information supplied in your entry is completely confidential, and it will not be shared with any third party.

I'm looking forward to reading your entries for the 2019 NU Agency of the Year Award.
