The New York City-based Spencer Educational Foundation said it hs granted master’s degree scholarships to 11 insurance professionals.
Combined with 64 full-time student scholarships awarded in the spring, these scholarships — valued at up to $10,000 each — have a cumulative total of $470,000 for 2016.
The foundation said it has now exceeded $6 million in total scholarship dollars granted since its inception in 1979.
“As these individuals further their education, they also further the professionalism of the industry,” said foundation Chairman Ron Davis. “In awarding the scholarships, the doundation is fulfilling its core mission — 'funding the education of tomorrow’s risk management and insurance leaders.'"
The 2016 part-time master’s scholarships were awarded to: Laura Beth Beattie (Zurich Insurance), Patrick S. Byrnes (Travelers Insurance), Shan He (Soteria Risk LLC), Shane Hogan (Aon Risk Solutions), Stacey Nielson (JM Family Enterprises), Kelly M. Parker (Olivet RMI Center), Benjamin L. Patterson (Chubb Insurance), Jessica R. Rosser (Crown Castle International), Shetikka Royal (DS Services of America), Matthew J. Shoaf (Munich Reinsurance America), and Jeff Stanworth (State Farm Insurance).
The foundation’s part-time master’s scholarship awards scholarships of up to $10,000 to risk practitioners who attend graduate school part-time or online, while working full-time. The criteria for this award include: field of study, career objective, work history, leadership skills and past academic performance.
In May, the New York Chapter of RIMS donated $50,000 to the foundation to create the foundation's first named part-time master’s scholarship.
The Spencer Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization affiliated with RIMS, is a global organization that provides funding for the education of risk management professionals. In addition to scholarships, grants totaling more than $3.25 million have also been awarded to educational institutions that offer risk management curriculums.
