Powers Named President of Carolina Casualty Insurance

W.R. Berkley Corp. named Douglas J. Powers as president and chief executive officer of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Carolina Casualty Insurance Company, the company announced.

Carolina Casualty, a subsidiary of Greenwich, Conn.-based W.R. Berkley, specializes in writing liability, physical damage and motor truck cargo insurance for the nation's trucking industry. It also writes liability and physical damage coverage for various classes of business and public auto insurance.

Mr. Powers has been in the insurance industry for over 25 years.

He joined Berkley in 1992 and served as president and CEO of Monitor Liability Managers LLC, a Berkley member company, until 2009.

Mr. Powers will succeed William E. Haines and will assume his new position immediately.

Mr. Haines will be taking a new position within the company that has yet to be announced, a company spokeswoman said.
