Storm In Gulf Could Delay Spill Cleanup For Weeks

Speculation has been ongoing about how a hurricane would impact the Deep Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and there is a chance that fear may now become a reality.

The Miami Herald reports that a storm with winds in excess of 45 miles per hour is blowing days away from the spill site, and the story notes that the National Weather Service said there was a 70 percent chance the storm could become a tropical cyclone over the weekend.

The Air Force is sending out "hurricane hunter" aircraft to explore the weather system, and those trying to manage the spill said they would have to abandon their efforts for weeks in the event of an approaching storm.
