The Travelers Companies Inc. said it has named Alan D. Schnitzerto the newly created position of vice chairman and chief legalofficer.
|Mr. Schnitzer will oversee the St. Paul, Minn.-based company'slegal functions, public policy and government affairs functions andserve on the company's management committee, Travelers said.
|Mr. Schnitzer, 41, has served as Travelers' lead outside counselfor a number of years. He joins the company from the law firm ofSimpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he is a partner.
|He will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jay S.Fishman. His appointment becomes effective April 23.
|Kenneth F. Spence III, Travelers' executive vice president andgeneral counsel since 2004, will continue in that role reporting toMr. Schnitzer.
