Travelers auto insurance customers in Georgia could see significant premium relief in the near future. Georgia Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner John F. King has announced that the insurance carrier filed for an overall 10.1% decrease in private passenger auto rates in the state.

The Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) recently approved the filing and says the reduction will impact thousands of Georgia policyholders and save customers as much as $40 million statewide.

"These reductions time and time again demonstrate that Georgia's insurance market is becoming more competitive and increasingly responsive to consumers," King said in a release. "Our efforts to build an environment centered on stability, accountability, and affordability are producing real results for Georgia families."

Travelers' rate reductions follow similar actions from other auto insurers in the state earlier this year, which the OIC says demonstrates "continued improvement" in Georgia's insurance landscape.

In February, the OIC announced auto insurance rate reductions for three Country Mutual Insurance affiliates operating in the state. Those approved rate filings represent an average rate reduction of 6% across the affiliates, which adds up to about $7.52 million in savings for their customers and affects tens of thousands of Georgia policyholders, the OIC said.

"A stable insurance market doesn't happen by accident," King said in a release about the Country Mutual rate filings. "It requires careful oversight, responsible reforms, and a commitment to consumers, and that's exactly what we are delivering in Georgia."
