A winter storm is set to intensify to a bomb cyclone this weekend, bringing snow, strong winds and coastal flooding to Eastern states, according to AccuWeather.

The Gulf Coast and Florida Peninsula will see rain starting Friday, while snow and mixed precipitation will develop across Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas.

The storm is then expected to intensify into a bomb cyclone once it reaches the southern Atlantic coast. At least one inch of snow is expected in North Carolina, northern South Carolina and Southern Virginia Friday into Saturday. Some areas, from north-central North Carolina into southeastern Virgina, could see 6 inches or more.

It could be the biggest snowstorm in decades for many cities. The last big snowstorm in Charlotte, N.C., was 3.5 inches in January 2018. Raleigh, N.C., saw 7 inches in December 2018.

"This is a serious and deadly stretch of winter weather that just won't let up," said Brandon Buckingham, AccuWeather meteorologist, in a statement. "Extended cold and back-to-back storms can create a domino effect of travel disruptions and costly shutdowns. Some schools and businesses have been closed for much of the week."

Strong winds from the storm could cause coastal flooding from North Carolina to New England, possibly flooding places like Norfolk, Va., and North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The storm is likely to cause travel disruptions over the weekend, with canceled flights and hazardous road conditions. Power outages, which were widespread after last weekend's storm, could occur again, raising the risk of frozen pipes.
