USAA aims to strengthen financial security in the military community by utilizing effective education, trusted advice and tools to help these families prepare for and respond to the needs of military life.
This Veterans’ Day, USAA launched its new “Honor Through Action” program, which will help military veterans and their families thrive through career, financial and well-being programs. The insurer has committed to investing $500 million into the program over the next five years.
“For more than a century, USAA has advocated for those who serve,” Juan C. Andrade, president and CEO of USAA, said in a release. “Honor Through Action reflects our shared responsibility to act and help the military community thrive in every aspect of life – personally, professionally and financially. Supporting those who serve is not just what we do – it is who we are. It is how we take care of our own.”
The Honor Through Action program will focus on:
- Meaningful careers: USAA says their work will focus on helping veterans and military spouses build professionally through career navigation, employer engagement, skills development and community support. The insurer reports that fewer than one-fifth of transitioning service members feel prepared to secure civilian employment, and once they are employed, their tenure averages less than one year. The military spouse unemployment rate also remains four times higher than civilian unemployment.
- Financial security: USAA aims to strengthen financial security in the military community by utilizing effective education, trusted advice and tools to help these families prepare for and respond to the needs of military life.
- Well-being: Honor Through Action will build on USAA’s Face the Fight program’s goal of preventing veteran suicide while providing support for physical health, caregivers, community connection and the prevention of veteran homelessness.
“This work is essential – not only for the military community, but for the health, strength and security of our nation,” said Andrade. “Meaningful careers empower financial security – and together, those create the foundation for overall well-being. We want USAA to lead by example and inspire others to act because taking care of those who serve is a shared responsibility.”
USAA partnered with veterans and civilians across the U.S. this Veterans’ Day to share their stories and incite a national conversation in order to help Americans better understand the realities of military life.
“The best way to celebrate veterans is to listen, act and invest in their future,” Andrade said. “That is exactly what we are doing by elevating their voices – not just today, but every day moving forward.”
