The financial fallout of ransomware attacks is climbing even as the number of cyber insurance claims falls, according to new data from Resilience. In the first half of 2025, the average cost of an individual ransomware attack rose by 17%, while the volume of incurred claims across Resilience's portfolio dropped by more than half, highlighting the persistent and destructive threat of financially motivated cybercrime.
Ivans announced the August 2025 results of the Ivans Index, the insurance industry’s premium renewal rate index. Year over year, commercial auto, BOP, general liability, commercial property and umbrella experienced increasing average premium renewal rates, while premium renewal rates decreased for workers’ compensation. Month over month, BOP, general liability, umbrella and workers’ compensation experienced increases in premium renewal rate change, while commercial auto, and commercial property saw decreases.
