In this era of remote and hybrid employment, many professionals are choosing to take advantage of this newfound flexibility to travel the world while they work. This new brand of remote workers, called “digital nomads,” are not bound to a desk or home office and can work from anywhere there is a laptop and an internet connection.
Just like when planning any other trip, however, there are travel insurance considerations that digital nomads should keep in mind — and many countries have very particular rules about insurance requirements for these worldwide workers.
According to Insured Nomads, the most common travel insurance requirements around the globe include:
- EUR 30,000 or equivalent in emergency medical coverage
- Repatriation coverage
- Valid insurance for the length of the visitor’s stay
- Formal proof of insurance, which travelers should keep on them at all times
The countries and regions that mandate travel coverage include Europe’s Schengen Zone, Bhutan, Israel, Laos, Singapore, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia and the Dominican Republic.
Using data from the World Bank, Forbes and Numbeo, Gamblizard recently compiled a list of the best countries for digital nomads from the United States. The rankings considered factors like rent and grocery costs, healthcare, English proficiency and internet speed. In the slideshow above we’ll look at the countries that made their top five.
