When companies welcome their employees’ pets in the workplace, they're showing they get what matters to their people at home, according to a study by Your Service Animal.
Pet-friendly policies improve the mental health of employees and reduces workplace stress, the data showed, while also boosting productivity.
“When you walk into an office where dogs are snoozing under desks and cats are perched on filing cabinets, you immediately feel the difference,” said Nick Jordan, founder of Your Service Animal.
“There's this lightness in the air. People smile more. They take short breaks to pet a colleague's dog, and then get back to work with fresh energy,” he added. “As more companies shift to hybrid models, I think we'll see the ones with solid pet policies winning the talent war. It's a simple thing that makes a profound difference to people who've grown accustomed to having their pets nearby while working from home. Smart employers recognize that happy, supported team members do better work—and pets are a surprisingly powerful part of that equation.”
Meanwhile, the pet insurance market is valued at roughly $12.82 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach nearly $35 billion by 2032 at a compound annual growth rate of 15.6%, according to Coherent Market Insights.
Growth in the sector is attributed to an increase in pet population and adoption of pet insurance around the world. Moving forward, increased awareness of coverages and frequency of certain pet diseases could boost further growth, while a lack of standardized health codes and low adoption in emerging countries could stunt development.
“I can say from experience that having animals around helps people cope with workplace stress," said Jordan. "That quick moment of connection with a pet—even someone else's pet—can completely reset your mental state when you're dealing with a tough project or tight deadline."
