Landmark Admin, a third-party administrator (TPA) for life insurance and annuity companies, says at least 1.6 million people were impacted by a data breach last spring.

The breach occurred last May and made news in the fall, when the company said it believed about 800,000 people were affected. But in an updated filing with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, Landmark now says the number of people impacted has actually doubled and stands at 1.6 million.

The investigation into the breach is ongoing, and that number could continue to grow.

The hackers accessed a wide range of data in the breach, including Social Security and passport numbers, medical information, tax IDs and information on health insurance, life insurance and annuity policies.

Those affected by the breach are being notified by mail. If they have any questions or concerns, they have 90 days to reach out to a helpline.
Landmark is also offering anyone impacted by the breach a year of identity theft protection through CyberScan. Affected individuals can also receive up to $1 million in identity theft insurance if their identity is stolen as a result of the breach.
