About 2.3 million couples get married in the United States each year, with the average bill for each of these celebrations coming out to around $33,000 – or about $284 per guest – in 2024.

To those who haven’t planned a wedding in the last decade or so, this number may sound inflated, so here is a breakdown of average wedding expenses from The Knot’s 2024 real weddings study:

  • Wedding dress: $2,100
  • Venue: $12,200
  • Photographer: $2,900
  • Caterer: $80 per head
  • Groom’s attire: $320
  • Cake: $540
  • Hair and Makeup: $290
  • DJ: $1,700
  • Event rentals: $2,000
  • Florist: $2,700
Needless to say, outside of the emotional importance of the day, weddings also come with a significant amount of financial investment, which is why many choose to protect themselves and their big day by purchasing wedding insurance.

For this episode of Insurance Speak, we were joined by Deidre LeBlanc, vice president for PI product – specialty lines at Travelers, to help us examine the ins and outs of wedding coverage for engaged couples.

With LeBlanc, we examined wedding disaster scenarios and broke down what would and would not be covered by a wedding policy. Listen to our full conversation above, or subscribe to Insurance Speak on Spotify, Apple Music or Libsyn.
