Safety, reliability and comfort are just a few considerations that go into selecting a new family vehicle. Whether you need extra space for car seats, a vehicle an aging family member can enter and exit easily or cargo space to stash your teen's ever-growing cache of sports gear, the market offers options to suit each family's unique needs. Recently, U.S. News & World Report announced their best family cars of 2023, which include a range of rides, from SUVs and minivans to electric cars and sedans. To determine their top picks, U.S. News & World Report looked at 92 model year 2023 cars, SUVs and minivans and compared professional reviews, safety and reliability ratings, seating, cargo volume and family-friendly feature availability. Some of the tech options available in new vehicles that benefit families include:
- Rear-seat alert prompts to remind the driver to check the back seat (for a sleeping baby or pet, for example) before exiting the vehicle
- Front and real automatic braking to help navigate spaces where there may be small, hard-to see children in the vicinity of the car
- Teen driver controls to help parents keep track of their new drivers and encourage them to develop good driving habits
- Connectivity features like in-car Wi-Fi and USB ports accessible to those in rear seats
- Heated and ventilated rear seats
