The Chubb Charitable Foundation is pledging $500,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts in India, which is facing a surging infection rate.

The donation will go to the American India Foundation (AIF), which will provide emergency medical equipment and supplies immediately to areas most impacted by the pandemic. The grant will help fund 100 beds for portable hospitals that are being deployed across the country, Chubb reported.

"As we watch with disbelief the COVID-19-related horror unfolding in India, we are committed to supporting those who are so tragically impacted by the pandemic," Lori Dunstan, executive director of the Chubb Charitable Foundation, said in a release. "With new infections topping 400,000 per day, the crisis has overwhelmed the country's healthcare system. The grant from our foundation will add to the urgent efforts required to meet the immediate medical needs of those most affected."

The donation to AIF is just the latest donation given by Chubb, which has given more than $10 million to nonprofits and research institutes working on global pandemic relief efforts. Previous grant recipients include the International Medical Corps., the Global FoodBanking Network, Project Hope, Feeding America and bio-medical researchers at The Rockefeller University.

"Our $10 million commitment will add to the urgent efforts required to meet the immediate health and nutrition needs of those most affected."
