The best states for women-owned businesses

Over 100 million American workers are employed by a woman-owned business, of which there are 1.1 million nationally. Researchers at Zippia analyzed state employment data to determine the most supportive and least states for working-class women and women-owned businesses. Zippia ranked each state in four areas: The number of women-owned businesses; the number of employees who work at women-owned businesses; sales per company; and the percent of women CEOs. Researchers sourced data from the U.S. Census's annual business survey and Discoverorg's study on women CEOs.
