Selective Insurance Group Inc. announced that John J. Marchioni, who has served as the company's president and chief operating officer since 2013, has been unanimously selected by the company's board of directors as its next CEO, effective Feb. 1, 2020. Marchioni will succeed Gregory E. Murphy, who will retire as CEO after serving in the position since 1999. Pat Hart has joined Palomar Insurance Corporation as president of the Palomar-Hart Group, a division of Palomar Insurance. He brings 30 years of highly specialized, large fleet risk management experience in the transportation industry. The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) named Wesley J. Griffiths as its first staff actuary. Prior to joining the CAS, Griffiths worked at Travelers Insurance for almost 20 years, holding titles such as second vice president and senior actuary. The CAS also named Victor R. Carter-Bey the new CAS CEO. He was most recently director of certification at the Project Management Institute. Beazley announced the following appointments:
- The head of third-party complex claims Beth Diamond will succeed Anthony Hobkinson as group head of claims following Hobkinson's decision to retire from his current role in Feb. 2020.
- Matthew Westhoff has been appointed head of U.S. large commercial property.
- Hannah Smith has been appointed a miscellaneous medical underwriter within its U.S. health care team.
- Stacy Spurgeon, vice president, comes to McGriff from Avant Brokerage, where she most recently served as vice president of the Kansas City and Jacksonville offices.
- Paula Brennan has been hired as assistant vice president.
- Vicky Owens, account executive, comes to McGriff from Specialty Risk Inc., where she was marketing executive.
