Southeast storms create widespread damage across state lines, killing at least 8

A series of intense storms traveled across the Southern U.S. this weekend before traveling up through up into the Northeast, creating a large path of destruction. At least 18 tornadoes tore through Mississippi, Texas and Alabama, according to the National Weather Service. The same series of storms affected Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania, bringing down trees and powerlines in these Northeast regions. The destruction caused at least eight deaths and left dozens injured. Widespread power outages were also reported, leaving 200,000 homes and businesses in the dark this weekend as uprooted trees took down power lines and damaged homes and other structures through the affected areas. In Alabama, mobile homes were tossed around and roofs of homes were blown off throughout Mississippi and Texas, according to local news reports.
