The 2017 IRMI Construction Risk Conference kicked off at the J.W. Marriott in Indianapolis on Monday, an annual event hosted by the International Risk Management Institute Inc.
The conference opened with a general session featuring keynote speaker Mike McGavick, CEO of XL Group PLC.
McGavick's address, titled "Insurance Innovation: No Longer the Road Less Traveled," focused on the current and future state of the insurance and construction industries, economic development, technological innovations, and agent-client relationships. "Staying close to clients is absolutely crucial to innovation," McGavick stated.

The Gary E. Bird Horizon Award was presented to 2017's winners Shawn Connick and Ashley Hogue of Charles Pankow Builders, Ltd.
In one of the afternoon sessions, "Building a Better Wrap-Up," seasoned wrap-up professionals (Kathleen Creedon, Dave Glasser, Angela Skow and Tim Walsh) outlined strategies for designing, documenting, and implementing a wrap-up and examined the most common issues that result in disputes and litigation.
Steven A. Coombs, president of Risk Resources, Inc., delivered a presentation titled "Building Risk Requirements: Who, What, Where, When and How" on builders risk requirements and programs.
Attendees concluded day 1 of the 2017 IRMI CRC by connecting with colleagues at the networking social.
