Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kent Sullivan, a partner at Jackson Walker, as insurance commissioner for a term set to expire February 1, 2019.
"Kent brought a new dimension to Jackson Walker's litigation and appellate groups," said Wade Cooper, Jackson Walker's managing partner. "We wish him all the best in his new position and know that his deep experience will bring him much continued success in this substantial role."

Former court of appeals justice
Sullivan previously served as a court of appeals justice, first assistant attorney general of Texas, and a state district court judge. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, and the Austin Bar Association and is a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
Additionally, Sullivan is a member of the Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee and Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee and he previously served on the Texas Pattern Jury Charge Committee, the State Bar of Texas board of directors, and the Texas Center for the Judiciary Board of Directors.
Sullivan received a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
