On March 1, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), based in Los Angeles, held its Media Roundtable — a day for representatives from some of its key partner companies and the media to discuss IICF's charitable success in 2016 and initiatives for 2017.
Representatives from Chubb, CNA, HUB International, Lloyd's America, Munich Re, Swiss Re and Zurich demonstrated how their corporate social responsibility (CSR), along with their partnership with IICF, spurred community outreach. Notable accomplishments include the Chubb Charity Challenge raising nearly $900,000 and Munich Re giving employees two days off each year to volunteer at a non-profit of the employee's choice.
IICF's plans for 2017 include the 2017 IICF Women in Insurance Global Conference, which returns to New York for a three-day program in June. Participants from around the world will gather to discuss this year's theme: "The Power of Diverse Thought and Innovation."
Other initiatives building on previous ventures include the IICF Week of Giving, scheduled for Oct. 14 to Oct. 21 in both the U.K. and U.S., and the IICF Early Literacy Initiative, now entering phase two, which will issue another three-year grant to Sesame Workshop, totaling $750,000, towards Every Day is a Reading and Writing Day.
IICF implemented a multilevel strategy to bolster its community outreach. Measures such as engaging future leaders, getting involved in the community, creating awareness for the insurance industries CSR and complementing IICF regional members through multiboard collaborations are credited with contributing to the foundation's success.
