Doug Wiles, the president of Herbie Wiles Insurance in St. Augustine, Florida, says he’s working more claims in a couple of days than he does in a typical year, according to the St. Augustine Record.

“The event that we had in St. Augustine clearly is unprecedented,” Wiles said.

Immediately after Hurricane Matthew hit the area, Wiles said his customers filed 600 claims. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we did another 300 or 400 today,” said Wiles on Monday.

And he's not the only insurance agent dealing with storm-related claims. Billy Wagner with Brightway Insurance in Ponte Vedra Beach said his office has also been unusually busy since the storm. "There’s a lot of flood (damage), lots of trees down hitting homes and a lot of confused consumers that just aren’t sure what their path of action needs to be," Wanger said.

The sad reality is that there are many homes and businesses that sustained water damage but don't have flood insurance and are left with few options for help.
