Many of us relocate, not through choice, but for job or family needs.
I'm a military spouse who moved 10 times in 23 years, usually to a location determined by the needs of the service, and only twice to on-base housing. A close friend has moved several times for her corporate job, not always at the time and to the place she wanted most, but the move was necessary for career advancement. In each case, among the factors we considered when choosing where to live were the real estate values and insurance premiums.
Remember that carriers consider several factors when setting premiums, including the amount of insurance you buy (which is generally based on the value of the insured property), the types of property covered, the types of perils covered, and the specific limits and deductibles you choose.
According to a February 2016 study by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the average Homeowners' insurance premium across the United States in 2013 (the most recent complete annual data available) was $1,086. That represents an average increase of 6% from 2012.
