New York City-based RIMS said it has pledged $450,000 to the Spencer Educational Foundation to fund risk management and insurance education programs.
The New York City-based foundation will receive the money in three installments of $150,000 a year over the next three years.
"The bright and talented new professionals and students that are entering the risk management workforce are a major reason why this profession continues to shine," said RIMS President Julie Pemberton. "It is imperative to support these future leaders as they take that initial step to pursue rewarding careers in this industry. That's why we're proud to partner with the Spencer Educational Foundation and support in their mission to advance the risk management and insurance profession."
The money will help support:
- Spencer's Part-Time Masters Scholarships program, which awards up to $10,000 to risk practitioners attending graduate school. The deadline for this year's scholarships is May 1.
- Spencer's Internship Program, which awards grants of up to $5,000 to employers to provide experiential learning opportunities for college students.
- Risk Manager in Residence Program, which awards up to $4,000 to colleges and universities to host an experienced risk professional as a guest lecturer.
"The foundation continues to make great progress that has included over $5.6 million in scholarships and $3.25 million in grants. None of our programs would be possible without the support of our industry partners," said Brion Callori, the foundation's chairman.
Additionally, the Atlanta Chapter of RIMS will hold its 36th annual educational conference on Feb. 25 and 26 with the theme "Envisioning the Future of Risk." Proceeds from the conference are used to support risk management scholarships. Last year, the chapter raised $55,000 for the Spencer Educational Foundation, the University of Georgia and Georgia State University.
