Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker Ford Motor Co. said it is expanding its safety recall on vehicles that have certain Takata air bag inflators after a death in December of man who was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck was linked to the faulty air bag.
The Ford vehicles affected by this recall are all 2004-2006 Ford Rangers built in North America, the company said.
A total of 391,394 Ford Rangers are affected by the recall, including 361,692 in the United States and and 29,334 in Canada. Dealers will replace the driver-side air bag inflator at no cost to the customer.
The Takata air bag recall now spans 14 automotive companies and about 24 million vehicles.
To check if a vehicle is included in the recall, you can plug your vehicle identification number into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration VIN lookup website.
