Arlington, Va.-based Casualty Actuarial Society has named Richard W. Gorvett, FCAS, CERA, MAAA, Ph.D., as its first staff actuary, effective Jan. 19. The 30-year industry veteran will act as an in-house adviser, offering perspectives on thought leadership, content development, strategic planning and communications. Prior to joining CAS, Gorvett served as director of the actuarial science program at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Pillsbury's insurance recovery and advisory practice announced the addition of a team of insurance litigators to the law firm's Washington, D.C, office. The group of seven — led by partners Mark Plumer, David Klein and Alex Lathrop — joins from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where Plumer served as chair of Orrick's national insurance practice. Klein served as deputy chair.
New York City-based insurance broking and risk management firm Marsh has added Jim Holtzclaw as senior vice president of cybersecurity consulting and advisory services at Marsh Risk Consulting. He joins from Waverley Labs, where he served as managing partner and general manager. Prior to Waverley Labs, he was the general manager of federal programs for CyberPoint International.
Morristown, N.J.-based insurance software and IT services provider Majesco has named Ajay Jain senior vice president of delivery operations. He is based in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, India. Prior to joining Majesco, Jain served as a director at Xchanging.
Atlanta-based claims management software provider Crawford & Co. announced the upcoming departure of four members of the executive management team of its Garden City Group, LLC (GCG) operation. GCG is the recognized leader in legal administration for class action settlements, mass tort matters, bankruptcy cases and legal notice programs.
Atlanta-based claims management software provider Crawford & Co. has appointed a new executive management team at its Garden City Group legal administration subsidiary:
- Kenneth A. Cutshaw has been named interim chief executive officer. He will report to Crawford interim president and CEO Harsha V. Agadi.
- Stephen J. Cirami has been named executive vice president and COO. He had been GCG's senior vice president of operations.
- Scott D. Nader has been named executive vice president and general counsel. He previously served as the chief counsel for the former Crawford Americas segment.
In December, Crawford announced that it had not renewed the contracts for the previous executive team at Garden City Group. CEO David Isaac; President Neil Zola; Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel Karen Shaer; and Executive Vice President and COO Jennifer Keough all left the company on Dec. 31.
King of Prussia, Pa.-based American Association of Managing General Agents, the trade association for wholesale insurance professionals, announced that Alyssa Bouchard has joined its management team as of Jan. 4 as assistant executive director. She joins from AmWINS Group in Chicago, where she served as associate property broker
London-based corporate and specialty insurance services provider Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty announced the creation of a crisis management division to assist its North American clients in preventing, preparing for and recovering from crisis incidents. Allianz named Marcos Garcia Norris crisis management regional practice group leader for North America. He is based in Chicago, and reports to Dieter Hautzer, regional head of liability in North America.
Consulting, financial advisory and risk management firm Deloitte announced that Kenny M. Smith, a vice chairman of Deloitte LLP, has been named the U.S. leader of its financial services industry group. A 32-year industry veteran, Smith currently serves as leader of Deloitte's U.S. banking and securities sector. Based in San Francisco, Smith is responsible for Deloitte's four financial services sectors: banking and securities; investment management; insurance; and real estate.
Jersey City, N.J.-based data analytics provider Verisk Analytics announced the appointment of Bill Churney as president of its AIR Worldwide business. Former AIR President Ming Lee retired Jan. 1, concluding a 20-year career at AIR Worldwide, and will continue at AIR until June 2016 in a nonexecutive role. Churney joined AIR in 2002, and most recently served as chief operating officer.
Glen Allen, Va.-based insurance underwriting firm Markel has announced that Bryan Sanders, president of Markel Wholesale, began serving on the Appalachian State University's Brantley Risk & Insurance Center Board of Advisors, effective Jan. 1. Sanders brings over 34 years of insurance industry experience to the center's board. He has been with Markel since 2013. Prior to joining Markel, he was CEO of Alterra Specialty.
