(Bloomberg) — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling about 1.7 million late model Ram trucks to replace air bags that may deploy inadvertently.
The two separate recalls include truck model years 2012 to 2015, according to a statement on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Saturday. Chrysler will notify owners and dealers and provide remedies free of charge, the agency said.
One of the recalls affects as many as 667,406 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks manufactured from June 20, 2012, to Jan. 26, 2015, in which the side air bags are "overly sensitive" and may activate without cause.
A second recall for as many as 1.06 million trucks includes those models and 4500 and 5500 trucks manufactured Jan. 18, 2011, to Oct. 7, 2014, on which the driver's front air bag could deploy unexpectedly following an electrical short.
The latest air bag-related recall for Chrysler follows a first-ever callback, announced on Friday, of about 1.4 million vehicles related to hackers exposing a cybersecurity threat.
Researchers were able to find and disable vehicles from miles away over the cellular network that connects to the vehicles' entertainment and navigation systems.
