Well, that wasn't so bad.
Instead of burying the greater New York City area in up to two feet of snow, as was expected, Monday's blizzard "only" dropped about 5.5 inches in the city proper, although nearly 15 inches were recorded at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip by Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm swung farther east than forecast and total snowfall could reach 14 to 18 inches in the city and up to 36 inches on Long Island by the time the storm is over.
That's good news for New York City, but not so good further north, where parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut have seen snow totals up to 25 inches as of Tuesday morning, along with high winds. PC360′s Rosalie Donlon in Connecticut reports that the worst snow is heading east over Long Island, Cape Cod and Boston. The island of Nantucket was hit by an ice storm and was without power early Tuesday.
Here's what it looks like on the ground in New York City and beyond.
