Christina Urias, the former Director of the Arizona Insurance Department, has joined the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in a new role heading international regulatory affairs, according to a statement released Wednesday by the NAIC.
The position, Managing Director for International Insurance Regulatory Affairs, will play a high-priority role in activities, maintaining international relationships with regulators and government officials along with coordinate efforts with federal and state insurance officials.
"Christina brings to the position an extensive network within the international insurance community," said Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), NAIC CEO. "She has a proven ability to represent U.S. policy interests abroad through the promotion of strategic diplomatic relationships. Her advice will serve our members exceptionally well."
While at the Arizona Insurance Department from 2003 to 2012, Urias chaired the NAIC's Solvency Modernization Initiative Task Force, served on the NAIC's Executive Committee and was elected Chair of the NAIC's Western Zone.
Urias will report to Nelson and will oversee staff in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Kansas City, Mo.
