(Bloomberg) — A corporate jet crashed into a home in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C., as it was attempting to land, killing at least three people.
The twin-engine Embraer SA Phenom 100 is owned by Sage Aviation LLC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, according to U.S. Federal Aviation Administration records. The company couldn't be immediately reached to comment on the accident and local authorities haven't named the people who were on board.
The plane was preparing to land at Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg, Maryland, at about 11 a.m. today when the accident occurred, the FAA said in an e-mailed statement. The plane struck at least one house and damaged two others, Pete Piringer, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said on local television.
At least three people aboard the aircraft died, Piringer said.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident.
