New video has emerged from the crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 shortly after it was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July. The video has emerged just as clean up operations are finally underway at the site.
Uploaded over the weekend by Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, the video shows a huge fire and cloud of smoke in a field very close to the village of Hrabove. In the video, taken by a resident of Hrabove, alarmed residents are seen observing the crash a few feet from their homes.
Russia and Ukraine are in disputes over how the plane came down. According to The NY Daily News, Ukraine and Western governments claim Russia-backed separatist fighters fired the rockets that brought down MH17. However, state-run television in Moscow claims to have evidence that places blame with Ukraine's air force.
The Malaysia Airlines flight was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17 when it was shot down over Ukraine. All 298 people aboard died. Recovery of the area began this weekend, and human remains and personal belongings are already being recovered.
