We love to know what other people make, it's sort of like seeing into the homes of the rich and famous or knowing what kinds cars celebrities drive. This month we're sharing the results of our Claims salary survey.

We asked our subscribers about their job satisfaction, the number of hours they work in an average week, the benefits they receive and a host of other questions. A total of 368 people responded from firms with average sales ranging from under $100,000 to over $50 million. We have the results of the survey for you beginning on p. 24. The good news is that the majority of insurance professionals are happy with their jobs and see good things for the future of the industry. They are a little concerned about the coming shortage of workers because insurance professionals and what they do are some of the best kept secrets around.

Subrogation is an important aspect of the industry and a strong program can assist insurers in recouping some of their losses on a claim. Kathleen Smith and Donna Geraghty look at the components of a successful subrogation department and provide practical tips for vetting a vendor if an insurer decides to outsource some or all of these responsibilities.

Determining the value of irreplaceable pieces of art is challenging and requires a bit of sleuthing on the part of the appraiser. Erin Hollenbank and Christian Trabue explain the techniques that are used to determine the value of one-of-a-kind artworks and the factors that can add or detract from their value.

Thunderstorm modeling is proving invaluable to insurers for managing weather risks and helping them predict where severe weather events may occur. There are some biases that enter into this type of modeling and Scott Stransky explains how they can impact the weather models.
