Organized criminal gangs are increasingly targeting high-end cars with keyless security systems, BBC News writes.

The thieves are acquiring equipment intended only for legitimate mechanics to steal cars and reprogram keys. Keyless entry and ignition typically works by the driver holding a key fob, which automatically opens the car and activates it for driving.

"The criminal act of stealing vehicles through the re-programming of remote-entry keys is an on-going industry-wide problem," Jaguar Land Rover said to BBC News. "We are taking this issue very seriously and our engineering teams are actively working in collaboration with insurance bodies and police forces to solve this continuously evolving problem."

This is becoming such a problem in London that some insurance companies are refusing to cover new Range Rovers, unless owners have underground or secure parking.
